Fig Leaf Tea?

Updated: Aug 31, 2021

I believe that the most popular tea sold in our shop is, and will remain, Fig Leaf herbal tea.

Whether crushed or loose, our Fig Leaves enjoy great popularity, and not only because of their excellent quality. Today, Fig Leaves are mainly used to treat prediabetes and to lower the insulin dose in diabetics.

But Fig Leaf tea was already drunk in ancient times...

Ficus carica then

The edible Fig is one of the first plants that was cultivated by humans

Fig leaves were used in ancient times to treat sore throats, warts, and to cleanse the kidneys. Originating from Middle East, the fig tree or Ficus carica has been sought and cultivated since ancient times and is now grown worldwide both for its fruit and as an ornamental plant.

The edible fig is one of the first plants to be cultivated by humans. Nine subfossil figs of a sterile type, dated to about 9400-9200 BC, were found in the early Neolithic village of Gilgal in Jordan Valley, 13 km north of Jericho and 68 km from pasión mediterránea's home.

In 1998, a study was published in the journal Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice that showed the effects of Fig leaf

consumption on type 1 diabetes. The study showed that patients who consumed fig leaves for breakfast had lower blood sugar levels after the meal and required less insulin.

Fig leaves are a good source of vitamins A, B1 and B2. They also contain calcium, iron, phosphorus, manganese, sodium and potassium.

Fresh and Natural

Our Fig Leaves are entirely organic. They dry slowly in a dark room to preserve their natural properties.

We do not use pesticides. They are packaged at the time of order so that you receive leaves that are in season. Spring and summer leaves tend to be more delicate and green. Autumn leaves are larger and more vibrant with a deep green color. The season in Israel can last until December, when the tree loses its leaves. We collect our last leaves at the end of October. These are the leaves that are sold until the leaves reappear next spring.

How to make a good Fig leaves Tea

Add 2 tablespoons to a quart of water and bring to a boil. Boil the leaves for 10-15 minutes. Strain the leaves and drink the tea hot or cold. You can store the leftover tea in the refrigerator until needed. If you have an insulin-dependent disease, please inform your doctor.
